Properties: anhydrous ferric chloride is purplish red under transmitted light and dark green under reflected light. Extremely deliquescent. It can easily transform into a yellow brown hexahydrate in contact with moist air. Soluble in water and organic solvents such as methanol and ethanol. It can form complex with ethanol, pyridine, Benzonitrile, etc. Melt and evaporate at 300 degrees, with a boiling point of approximately 315 degrees.
Usage: Used as a water purifier, etchant, waterproofing agent, and in the manufacture of other iron salts and inks. It is also used as a mordant, catalyst, oxidant, chlorination agent, colorant, and coagulant.
